Frequently Asked Questions

The Farm

We have a beef finishing farm just south of Opunake in Coastal Taranaki. This land has been farmed by the Carey family for three generations. All of the beef we sell is finished on this farm.

Our animals are Angus prime-steers. While we have other breeds on our farm, these animals are sold through traditional channels.

Yes–our steers are both 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. We feed no maize silage or palm kernel (PKE). The animals eat grass and grass supplements (hay and silage) grown on farm. We do not buy in feed for the animals.

We follow the Pasture-fed Cattle Assurance System standards which state that the animals are:

- Identifiable and traceable

- Not confined for the purposes of intensive feeding

- Pasture fed for their lifetime

No. The animals grow as they grow. Our animals are free from Hormonal Growth Promotants.

Our farm is not organic. We do however follow a traditional farming system where fertilisers are applied (phosphate and pot ash) to ensure consistent grass growth year-round. We do not apply herbicides to the paddocks. Antibiotic treatment is reserved for animals that really need it and in accordance with veterinary guidance.

Yes. Our stocking densities are low and the animals are shifted to fresh pasture each day. The animals have continuous access to graze in open pastures. Our animals are never fed through a feedlot or herd home.

The Beef

We ‘cold bone’ all of our animals after 5 to 7 days. Our steak cuts are then further aged under vacuum for another 7-14 days.

Nutritional information is provided below each product on the relevant product page.

Absolutely! Check out our Recipes where you will find a variety of cooking inspiration and tips.

Unfortunately, at this current time, we do not have beef bones or pet bones for sale.

We do offer Beef Cheeks and Oxtail in our Pitmasters collection, however these are limited products that often sell out fast. To be the first to hear of re-stocks, ensure to sign up to our database and follow us on social.

Unfortunately we do not have offal for sale at this time.

Our beef is not halal.

The Lamb we sell online is sourced from Integrated Foods / Fresh Meats NZ. Rest assured this product meets our approval of high-quality premium meat standard.

Shipping & Delivery

We deliver from the top of the North Island to the bottom of the South Island, including Waiheke and Stewart Island. As we deliver a perishable product, we are generally unable to deliver to your door if you live at a rural address. Instead, we do what we can to get the beef as close as possible to your door, or we can get the order delivered to a friend/family member or your work. To check if your address is classed as rural by our primary courier company, click here. You can always Contact Us to check your options prior to placing your order.

When you place your order online, the Delivery Date will always default to the next available delivery day. Using the calendar at Checkout, you can choose the Delivery Date that suits you best.

Click and Collect available for local customers in the Taranaki region

Couriers can deliver at all times of the day. If you’re not home when the courier delivers, we ask the courier to leave the beef box on your property rather than a ‘card to call’. If you have a particular spot where you’d like the box left if you are out, please put this in the Delivery Notes field when you place your order. The default spot will otherwise be at your front door.

Yes, we offer click and collect for customers living in the Taranaki region. Simply select the ‘click and collect’ option at the cart.
